This is my go to inspiration resource on starting a farm.

When it comes to getting started with farming there is no better book to read than You Can Farm by Joel Salatin.  Joel has inspired many people to get back to that land and start farming.  This book is the first one that I read when I was thinking about getting started with farming.  It lays out many great ideas, helps give you ways to get started, and inspires you to pursue your passions.  Here I will provide you a brief overview of his book and why it inspired me.

The first great thing that Joel Salatin does is to get you to look to your future and create a dream.  What will you be doing?  Do you want to farm?  How does that farm look? How will you make money?  He really lays everything out so that you can dream, but also to think about how practical you need to be.

Next, he discusses the importance of thinking critically about your ideas and how it will all work.  He makes sure to discuss the different failures he has made and what caused them.  Also, he talks about mistakes that other people have made.  This helps to give you a base so that you can know what not to do.  Also, he talks about his successes and great possible opportunities that are available for everybody if they put forth the effort.

The following section is a great outline for how to get started.  From getting a place, to start farming, all the way to what self-employment looks like if you take it that far.  Also discussed is ways to make your model of farming work and how to develop your market.

This is just a high level overview of this book.  It really serves as a great foundation and spring board for getting into farming.  It will allow the reader to see if this is something they want to pursue an dhow it could look.  It does lay out many other great resources that are available for you as well as give you some great ideas on how to proceed and start your farm.
